The Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI) was established in 1978 with subsidy from Wacoal Holdings Corp. In 2004, the exhibition “Fashion in Colors: VIKTOR&ROLF&KCI” was held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, and the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo). This exhibition, which mainly featured items from the collection of KCI, focused on the relationship between costumes and colors from the 17th century to the present, analyzing the social and cultural aspects of the times. The exhibition was highly commended for the rare collection and research achievements it presented to the public. During the exhibition period, seminars and fashion shows of children’s designs attracted a wide age group of audiences to explore the wonders of costumes and colors.
